Vercingetorix / Vincent Getorix (82-46 BCE) was a Gallic chieftain who rallied the tribes of Gaul (modern-day France) to repel the Roman invasion of Julius Caesar in 52 BCE. The battle was lost but he remains a French national hero and a large statue of him can be seen today on the mountain of Alesia. Vincere Aut Mori to front of base, E. Picault to side.
